*Local political subdivisions: county local propositions, cities,
school districts, water districts, hospital districts, and any other
local government that conducts elections. The majority of these
elections are conducted on the May uniform election date.
**Filing deadlines: Generally, the filing deadline is 62 days
prior to election day; however, outside law may provide a different
general election filing deadline. See Sec. 144.005(a) of the Texas
Election Code. Local political subdivisions other than cities or school
districts might not have a “first day” to file. Filing deadlines vary
for special elections to fill vacancies. See section 201.054 of the
Texas Election Code. Write-in deadlines for general and special
elections also vary, but the deadline is usually on the 5th
day after the regular filing deadline for the election. Generally, the
first day to file is 30 days before the filing deadline.
***Good Friday: If the County is not regularly open for
business on this day, then the county is not required to conduct early
voting.
